Game of Thrones: Why I love it

It's comes as no surprise that people across the world are obsessed with Game of Thrones (guilty!). After every weekly episode, the social media explodes with memes, conspiracy theories and what not. The show has already gone down in Television history as a phenomenon.

The books may have been successful in their own right, but nothing will match the show on HBO.

Every week, I sit on my glutes, glued to my Hotstar account, wondering which of my fav characters will die this time around (oh no!).

Here are five reasons why I love the show!

1

Drama and Death

As a drama queen, I have to admit - my life doesn't have enough drama as much as a single episode on GoT. From the death of Ned and Robb Stark to reviving a dead Jon Snow and discovering that he's a Targaryen and from Cersei's evil schemes to Arya Stark's grit for vengeance and of course, Daenerys and her dragons, each season and each episode has a generous amount drama peppered throughout. (Yes, yes, I am aware of what's happening in Season 7 - but no spoilers!)

2

Underplayed and Unpredictable

Yes, I am addicted to the twists in the plots and the politics of this drama (and I thought Indian TV shows were dramatic!)

I never imagined that a meek Sansa Stark would decide to take on Ramsay Bolton all by herself; of course, she did have a little help from Little Finger. Well, she did learn a lot from her former mother-in-law, Cersei. And the white walkers...can Bran control them?

3 Reality

What stumps me the most is the reality of the storyline that echoes the modern day - the hypocrisy of the society, betrayal and malice harboured by close ones and the dispensability of anyone and everyone. The show is disturbing at times, yet the bold risks is what that keeps me glued to the screen (without blinking).

4 Revenge

After watching the series over several years, this is what I realised - all is motivated by pure revenge. From when Bran was pushed off the tower to Theon Greyjoy being mutilated, every scene has a deeper and meaningful backstory. The most satisfying vengeful deaths so far has been that of Joffrey and Ramsay Bolton (great going, Sansa!)

5

Exciting and Explicit

I believe that with bold scenes, breathtaking sets, great cinematography and brilliant characterisation, this show has all the ingredients to keep you hooked. Drama, action and romance - every human emotion has been explored. Each episode has left me craving for more and getting through a week’s worth of wait is a real struggle.
