A dog's tale

Dogs are not vindictive in nature, animal lovers across the world know that.

However, in the recent past, I came across stories where people beat their dogs to discipline them. When questioned, they said they were trying to make their dogs 'listen' and 'understand' the basic rules. Some even used it as a form of punishment.

When I argued stating that it would have an adverse effect on the animal, they seemed least bothered.

My dear so-called-animal-lovers and pet parents, please understand that when you hit your pets, you teach them to fear you, you break their trust and weaken their confidence, in turn making them insecure. Why would you want to put a sweet animal through that?

Day after day, I see my social media pages filled with images and videos of abused animals. Pets are being abandoned on the streets or tied outside BMAD and some dogs are even being killed!

Last year, a five-month-old puppy was thrown off a building by two medical students. A few months ago, a man poisoned and then burnt over 15 stray dogs to clean the locality he lives in. Recently, a student killed a month-old pup for peeing on his clothes and even bragged about his wrongdoings on a WhatsApp group.

All this happened in #NammaChennai.

Yes, there are many animal rights activists who questioned and fought against these wrongdoings, kudos to them.

Along with them, there were many other armchair activists who threw in their two-cents.

No, I haven't done anything so far except contribute fiscally towards the betterment of these adorable creatures. However, I am most definitely going to be actively involved in caring for them.

As residents of this city, we should definitely take a stand against such brutality towards animals.

Why this blog?

Until a few months ago, I never had the privilege of owning a pet. Ever since that little boy came into my life, my outlook towards animals has changed drastically.

He has brought so much love and happiness into my life and I wish I could have had a furry friend sooner.

So, before any of you adopt pets, ensure that you can take good care of them. Please don't leave them stranded on the streets, because you can't handle or 'afford' to take care of them.

You'll just break their hearts!
